Our School and the Community

Pencoed Comprehensive School is a Community Focused School. We believe that community links are important for student development and that the community can also benefit from our involvement. We aim to build on close community relationships and initiatives already established as well as develop new links, particularly with local businesses and organisations.

Our students are very active in their fund raising activities for local charities. As well as the regular fund raising activities of the 6th form Interact Group, mentored by the Rotary Club, there’s a constant stream of different activities by all pupils over the school year. A recent example is the money donated to Dylan’s Dream (in support of a Pencoed Primary school pupil) during the Christmas Fair in December 2012.

Other community involvement includes members of the ECO Group litter picking in the community and tree planting in memory of a former pupil who died whilst on military duty in Afghanistan.

The annual school show, Christmas and Easter Concerts, Drama showcases also provide regular opportunities for the local community to enjoy entertainment provided by our hugely talented pupils.

Current school initiatives, either led by ourselves or in partnership with others, include the Senior Citizens Lunchtime Club, and Keeping Up With Your Child Classes for parents.

The local rugby and football clubs also enjoy the use of our playing fields on weekends. A new pitch is to be developed specifically on the school site for the use of young people out of hours as well as during school hours.

The school site is also used extensively out of school hours by BCBC Sport & Wellbeing who organise and/or host sporting events in the Sportshall and external playing areas, and BCBC Adult Communty Learning who run evening classes.

The school’s conference room and other facilities are also available for hire. Regular users include the Caravan Club. If you’re interested in hiring our facilities please contact Ruth Jones, Site Manager, telephone 01656 867100/07834 464303 or email ruth.jones@bridgend.gov.uk.

Lunches are hosted by 6th form pupils, with the food prepared by the kitchen staff. As well as the lunches from time to time we arrange other activities which you’re welcome to participate in, for examples, games such as bingo, visits to teaching departments to see pupils’ work, coffee mornings and other social events organised by pupils.

Here are some points of information –
